Music
Creating, Performing and Inspiring Through Music
Music empowers students to explore creativity, develop discipline and express ideas through performance, composition and digital technologies. Through practical experiences and the study of diverse musical traditions, boys build confidence, collaboration and critical listening skills while developing the creative thinking needed for pathways in performance, production, composition and the broader arts industry.
Junior School (Year 5-6)
Discovering Sound and Creative Expression
Junior School Music introduces boys to music through a Kodály-inspired, aural-based approach, using singing, movement and practical music-making to develop understanding of rhythm, melody and musical concepts.
These foundations support the progression from voice to instrument as students develop aural skills, musical confidence and creativity through instrumental performance, composition and digital music creation. Students explore how music can communicate ideas and emotions while developing collaboration, curiosity and a lifelong appreciation of music.
Middle Years (Year 7-9)
Performing, Creating and Exploring Musical Worlds
Middle Years Music expands students’ musical skills through performance, technology and exploration of global traditions.
Boys develop confidence through guitar, rock performance, digital composition, DJ skills and musical theatre. Through individual and ensemble experiences, students strengthen creativity, stage presence and collaboration while discovering their own musical identity.
Senior Preparation (Year 10)
Refining Musical Skill and Artistic Expression
Year 10 Music develops students’ understanding of performance, composition and music analysis.
Boys refine their technical skills through ear training, notation, creative composition and live performance, building the confidence and artistic maturity required for senior music studies and future creative pathways.
Senior Years (Year 11-12)
Creating Music with Purpose and Impact
Senior Music challenges students to analyse, create and perform music across a range of styles and contexts. Through composition, performance and musicology, boys develop advanced musicianship and explore how music communicates identity, culture and meaning.
In Year 12, Music Extension provides students with the opportunity to specialise in performance, composition or musicology through an individual program of study, preparing them for further study and pathways across music and the creative industries.
