Boarding Life

A Day in the Life

At Nudgee College, we believe that routine and structure are the foundations upon which boys develop independence, build confidence, and thrive.

Our boarding program provides a balanced rhythm to daily life, ensuring each student has the time and support to focus on their studies, participate in activities, and connect with their peers.

Our weeknights are structured to support both academic and personal growth, including afternoon activities, training, dinner, reading, dedicated study, and evening relaxation.

Weekends are a highlight of boarding life. From supporting and participating in GPS sport to a range of engaging on-campus and off-campus activities, there are plenty of opportunities to keep the boys busy and engaged. We conclude each weekend with our community gathering for Boarders’ Mass at 7.30pm on Sunday evenings.

Examples of our daily routine can be found in our Boarding Prospectus.

Weekends & Activities

The beauty of being part of a large boarding program is that hundreds of boys are in the Village on weekends, and there is plenty to do!

Our dedicated Recreation Coordinator plans a wide range of activities to help keep the boys busy over the weekend. These activities help boys settle in, build confidence and form strong friendships within the boarding community.

The program includes both off-campus outings and on-campus events. There are regular social opportunities with girls, siblings and students from other boarding schools.

Weekend Activities Example

  • Friday: Pickleball Tournament on Campus.
  • Saturday: GPS Sport during the day, Broncos game at Suncorp Stadium in the evening.
  • Sunday: Mooloolaba Beach trip social with Stuartholme School, St Margaret's College, and Clayfield College.

Health, Wellbeing & Support

First and foremost, Nudgee Boarding provides a 'home away from home' for our boys. We understand that in order for a boy to learn, he first must feel comfortable and connected.

Therefore, the social, emotional and spiritual wellbeing of our boys is at the core of all that we do. Each boarder in our community is known personally, valued greatly, encouraged frequently and challenged appropriately during his time in boarding. Our extensive network of care ensures that each boarder has a wide array of staff members, with different backgrounds and expertise, to reach out to.

  • Boarding wellbeing: You can find an overview of our Boarding Pastoral Care team here.
  • Health Centre: Our Health Centre is staffed 24/7 by Registered Nurses; we also have a doctor and physio who visit our boarders for appointments each week.
  • College Psychologists: Your son will have access to our team of College Psychologists who also work two evenings per week to support our boarding students after hours.
  • Day school wellbeing: Your son’s Pastoral Care tutor and House Dean will look after your son’s wellbeing and all school-related matters.
