Technical Production Crew
Behind Every Great Event
The Technical Production Crew gives students hands-on experience delivering live events across the College. Working behind the scenes, students support assemblies, concerts, theatrical productions and major events through sound, lighting, vision, staging and production operations. The program develops technical knowledge, confidence and responsibility through production.
Skills Behind the Scenes
Developing Technical Skills
Students learn to operate and understand a range of production equipment, including microphones, mixing consoles, lighting systems, projection, cameras and stage-management tools. They also develop an understanding of signal flow, equipment setup, sound checks, cueing and safe work practices.
Training is practical and progressive. New members begin with foundational tasks under supervision, while experienced students take on more complex responsibilities as their confidence and capability grow. Students are encouraged to ask questions, troubleshoot problems and reflect on how technical choices influence the quality of an event.
Supporting Live Events
Crew members contribute to events from setup through to pack-down. Depending on the production, students may prepare microphones, operate lighting cues, manage presentation slides, support performers backstage, monitor audio levels or assist with staging and equipment changes.
Live events require concentration, precision and adaptability. Students learn to follow production plans, respond to cues and remain calm when circumstances change. They also develop an appreciation for the preparation required before an audience enters the venue and the coordination needed throughout a performance.
Exploring Production Pathways
A Range of Production Roles
Technical production offers pathways for students with different interests and strengths. Some may be drawn to sound engineering, while others develop expertise in lighting, vision, stage management, camera operation or backstage coordination.
Students can explore several areas before choosing to specialise. This allows them to build a broad understanding of live production while discovering the roles in which they feel most capable and engaged.
