Industrial Technology Skills
Building Skills Through Craft, Creativity and Precision
Industrial Technology Skills gives students the opportunity to develop practical skills through authentic workshop experiences and real-world projects. Combining traditional craftsmanship with modern production techniques, boys learn to design, create and refine products while developing confidence, problem-solving skills and the attention to detail required for future trade and vocational pathways.
Middle Years (Year 9)
Creating with Confidence and Craftsmanship
Year 9 Industrial Technology Skills introduces students to woodworking, joinery and workshop practices through hands-on construction projects.
Boys develop skills in measurement, technical drawing, machinery use and finishing techniques while creating practical products. These experiences build craftsmanship, independence and the confidence to take ideas from design through to completion.
Senior Preparation (Year 10)
Mastering the Production and Design Skills
Year 10 Industrial Technology Skills deepens understanding of trade-standard production processes, technical documentation, and furniture manufacturing.
Following comprehensive safety inductions, Semester 1 focuses on interpreting technical plans to build small household furniture using composite materials and modern joinery. In Semester 2, boys construct a precision timber bedside table before collaborating in industry-style team manufacturing roles to produce recreational equipment like skateboards or beach chairs. Assessment of product quality, workshop proficiencies, and logbook folios seamlessly prepares students for Senior Industrial Technology Skills and vocational Certificate pathways.
