College Musical
Creating Something Extraordinary Together
The biennial College Musical brings together students from Nudgee, St Rita’s College and Mary Mackillop College to create a large-scale theatrical production. Staged in Tierney Auditorium, the Musical combines drama, music, dance and technical production in an authentic live theatre experience.
Students contribute as performers, musicians and production team members, working with specialist staff from rehearsals through to opening night.
Finding Your Place on Stage
Performance Opportunities
Students may audition for principal, featured and ensemble roles, with opportunities suited to a range of experience levels and performance strengths. Cast members develop their skills in acting, singing, movement and characterisation while learning how these elements work together to tell a compelling story.
Rehearsals guide students through scene work, musical preparation, choreography, blocking and ensemble performance. As the production develops, students learn to respond to direction, refine their choices and contribute consistently to the shared artistic vision.
Music Behind the Performance
Music and the Orchestra
Instrumentalists may have the opportunity to contribute to the production through the orchestra or musical ensemble. Working with conductors, tutors and fellow musicians, students prepare the score and learn how live music supports the action, emotion and pace of a theatrical performance.
Performing as part of a musical requires close attention, adaptability and strong ensemble awareness. Musicians must respond to the conductor, support performers on stage and adjust carefully to the demands of each performance.
A Community on and Beyond the Stage
Confidence, Friendship and Belonging
The College Musical creates a distinctive community within the Performing Arts program. Students from different year levels and schools work closely together, support one another through the rehearsal process and share the excitement and challenge of live performance.
For some students, the Musical provides an opportunity to take centre stage. For others, it offers a first experience of theatre or a meaningful way to contribute behind the scenes. Regardless of role, students experience the pride of creating something ambitious together and presenting it to the wider College community.
