Literacy empowers students with the skills to discover, evaluate and communicate information effectively across all areas of learning. Through research, digital literacy, reading development and information management, boys learn how to navigate an increasingly complex information landscape. The program builds curiosity, critical thinking and communication skills, helping students become confident learners who can engage thoughtfully with the world around them.
Junior School (Year 5-6)
Discovering Information and Building Reading Confidence
Junior School Literacy develops essential research, digital literacy and reading skills through specialist Teacher Librarian sessions.
Boys learn how to navigate library resources, conduct effective research, evaluate sources and communicate ideas in creative ways. Through activities including database research, note-taking, cyber safety and persuasive language analysis, students build the foundations for independent learning and develop confidence in managing information across different subjects.
Middle Years (Year 7)
Researching, Analysing and Communicating Ideas
Year 7 Literacy strengthens students’ ability to locate, evaluate and communicate information with greater independence and purpose.
Through specialist library sessions, boys develop advanced research techniques, source evaluation skills, referencing practices and written communication strategies. Students learn to identify reliable information, structure effective responses and apply clear language choices, building the confidence and critical thinking skills needed for success throughout their secondary education.
