Design and Technology
Engineered for Impact, Design Test and Build
Design and Technology introduces students to the creative intersection of design thinking, practical engineering, and hands-on manufacturing. Through project-based challenges, boys learn to identify real-world problems, generate innovative concepts, and bring their ideas to life through physical prototyping and digital modeling. The curriculum balances traditional workshop craftsmanship with modern production technologies, fostering spatial reasoning, critical iteration, and technical confidence.
Middle Years (Year 8)
Design Process, Rapid Prototyping & Practical Construction
Year 8 Design and Technology builds core skills in woodwork, construction, technical drawing, and 3D modelling.
Boys navigate the complete design process across two practical challenges: building aerodynamic Downforce Racers to test speed and forces, and crafting timber spatial mazes using precision tools. Through hands-on manufacturing and CAD software, students learn to communicate ideas visually and digitally, laying an ideal foundation for Senior Design, Engineering, and Industrial Technology pathways.
