Art
Discovering Creativity, Expression and Artistic Identity
Art empowers students to explore creativity, develop technical skills and communicate ideas through a range of artistic mediums. Through practical studio experiences and the study of diverse artistic traditions, boys build confidence in their creative voice while developing visual literacy, critical thinking and an appreciation of how art reflects culture, identity and the world around us.
Junior School (Year 5-6)
Exploring Ideas Through Colour, Culture and Creation
In Years 5 and 6, students engage with visual culture and artistic traditions while building foundational studio skills using the Elements and Principles of Art.
Year 5 boys experiment with line and bold colour inspired by Hundertwasser before sculpting polymer clay figures and painting deep-space compositions. In Year 6, students combine mixed-media techniques to assemble a unified "Elements Tree," construct 3D animal portraits drawing on African cultural motifs, and build environmental sculptures from natural materials.
Middle Years (Year 7-9)
Steampunk Ceramics, Nature Photography and Street Art
In Middle Years, Visual Art deepens technical rigour through specialised studio disciplines, folio development, and social commentary.
In Year 7, boys combine steampunk aesthetics with ceramics to build complex 3D clay sculptures. Year 8 students explore environmental art using DSLR photography, macro composition, printmaking, and expressive paint studies. By Year 9, boys master realistic observational portraiture before experimenting with stencilling and street art techniques to communicate personal identity and contemporary social themes.
