Philosophy & Reason challenges students to examine the questions behind how we think, understand and make decisions. Through exploring knowledge, ethics, logic and human experience, boys develop the ability to analyse ideas, challenge assumptions and construct thoughtful arguments. The subject builds powerful critical thinking and communication skills valuable across academic, professional and leadership pathways.
Senior Preparation (Year 10)
Questioning the World Through Critical Thinking
Year 10 Philosophy & Reason introduces students to the major ideas and questions that have shaped human thought.
Boys explore ethics, knowledge, reality and human experience while developing skills in argument, research and philosophical analysis. Through discussion, writing and presentations, students learn to evaluate perspectives and communicate complex ideas with clarity.
Senior Years (Year 11-12)
Mastering Logic, Ethics and Big Ideas
Senior Philosophy & Reason challenges students to investigate complex ideas surrounding ethics, society, science and human consciousness.
Through logical reasoning, philosophical inquiry and critical analysis, boys learn to construct strong arguments, evaluate competing viewpoints and defend informed perspectives. The subject develops intellectual confidence and communication skills for future study and professional environments.
