A Letter Through Time
The following is an excerpt from edition 18 of Behind the Stripes.
In his letter to past and future Nudgee boys, Ethan reflects on how the College has evolved from its early days, when Sandgate Road was a dirt road and the Treacy Building stood at the heart of the campus. He considers how familiar places such as the Flats, Ross Oval, the Grandstand and Chapel sit alongside newer spaces including the McKennariey Centre and Library.
For Ethan, however, Nudgee is about much more than its buildings and history. He writes about the sense of belonging and brotherhood he experienced when he first arrived at the College, and the many opportunities that have helped him grow in confidence, build friendships and enjoy representing his school.
From sport and debating to music, chess, Performing Arts, agriculture, technology and Esports, Ethan reflects on the breadth of experiences available to Nudgee students and the different ways they can discover their interests and connect with others.
Looking towards the future, Ethan acknowledges that starting at a new school can be daunting, drawing on his own experience of feeling nervous before quickly finding a sense of belonging.
His message to future Nudgee boys is simple: embrace the opportunities, learn from mistakes and remember that there will always be a place for them at Nudgee College.
