The Flats Precinct
Out of the Mud, Into the Future: Reimagining The Flats Precinct
Since the late 1880s, when Brother Ambrose Treacy first looked across our wetlands and saw a vision of what faith and community effort could achieve, The Flats have been the foundation of the Nudgee Spirit. For generations, these grounds have turned "mud and trees" into training grounds for champions, serving as a vital space where character is built, teamwork is forged, and lifelong memories are created. Today, we invite you to join us as we embark on the next chapter of this storied history: the full redevelopment of The Flats Precinct.
Why Now?
While The Flats remain the "heart and soul" of our boys' sports program, decades of continuous use mean our facilities no longer meet modern expectations for safety, accessibility, or functionality. Our campaign, "Out of the Mud, Into the Future," is a commitment to a liberating education that extends beyond the classroom to the sporting field. We are reimagining this space to ensure every student, regardless of ability, can participate with dignity, safety, and pride.
Our Vision for 2026
Construction is set to begin in late 2026, delivering world-class infrastructure designed to foster excellence and inclusion. This transformation will include:
- Modernised change rooms for students, staff, and visiting teams
- Accessible facilities for students of all abilities
- Extensive shaded areas to ensure comfort and sun safety for spectators and students
- Dedicated spaces for referees, coaches, and medical support
- Improved storage and circulation areas for gear and equipment
- Environmentally sustainable design and durable finishes
- Gender-inclusive amenities, in line with best practice in school sport
- A flexible, multi-purpose meeting room for team strategy, leadership sessions, and community functions
- An elevated grandstand to accommodate supporters and amplify the match-day atmosphere
"The intention of this project is to ensure that, for another 50 years, we can continue to gather, connect, and bring people together in a beautiful place so fondly held by our wider community."
Mr Scott Thomson, Principal
Building a Legacy Together
This project is about far more than infrastructure; it is about securing a legacy of character and connection for the next century. Research shows that the regular physical activity fostered here boosts mental health, resilience, and long-term wellbeing for our young men.
The College and the Foundation have already committed significant funding, but we cannot reach this goal without the generous support of our community. Whether you are a current parent, an Old Boy, or a friend of the school, this is an opportunity to help us build a future where every student feels they belong from the moment they step into the change room.
While the College and Foundation have already committed to anchor this vital project, the full realisation of our vision rests with our community. To ensure we can achieve every visionary aspect of this redevelopment, including the inspiring elevated grandstand and the multi-purpose Flexible Learning Area, the Nudgee College Foundation is seeking to raise an additional $2.5 million in community support. Your generosity today is the key to maintaining our momentum and ensuring the precinct is fully completed by June 2027, allowing our students, families, and Old Boys to move "out of the mud" and into these world-class facilities without delay. Join us in securing this legacy now; your gift ensures that the heart of Nudgee sport becomes a place where every member of our community can grow, compete, and belong for generations to come.
