Mr Scott Thomson (Week 7, Term 2)
Dear Nudgee College Community
I am thrilled to share the remarkable success of our recent Giving Day. Thanks to the generosity and kindness of our wonderful community (parents, Old Boys, staff, and NC community members), we have currently reached a total of $150,000 to support bursaries for deserving young men at our College.
This incredible outcome reflects our shared commitment to ensuring that more boys, regardless of financial circumstances, can access the quality education, faith formation, and brotherhood that define St Joseph’s Nudgee College. Your support truly makes a lasting difference, and on behalf of the College, I extend my deepest gratitude.
I would like to thank all of the students for their involvement in the day, led by our Year 12 students who manned phones, ran activities, cooked the BBQ and donated. Many thanks to our College Foundation, Chaired by Mr Ingham-Myers and our Head of Philanthropy, Ms Lindsay Khushal. Donations continue to be welcomed. As a faith community, generosity and care for others is a central element of our beliefs.
In reflecting on our faith and leadership, I am reminded of the inspiring words of St Augustine: “Faith is to believe what you do not see; the reward of this faith is to see what you believe.” This sentiment perfectly captures the spirit with which we approach the education and formation of our students—rooted in trust, hope, and the belief that every young man has the potential to achieve great things with the right support.
Our new Pope, Leo XIV, an Augustian, offers teachings that align closely with our College’s values. He invites us all to listen more deeply, to God, to one another, and to the world. This call to attentive listening encourages families to foster empathy and open communication, nurturing young men who lead with humility and compassion. Pope Leo XIV also reminds us of the importance of hope in uncertain times, encouraging us to place our trust in a future shaped by faith, courage, and unity. These lessons are invaluable as we guide our boys to become not only capable scholars but also thoughtful, service-oriented leaders.
As we look ahead, I encourage every member of our community to remain engaged with the life of the College through participation, volunteering, and prayer. It is your continued involvement that strengthens the nurturing environment where all our students can flourish and, as evidenced by Giving Day, learn the importance of generosity and giving back.
Thank you once again for your generosity, your belief in our mission, and your commitment to the future of St Joseph’s Nudgee College. Together, we build a community of faith, learning, and brotherhood, preparing young men to make a positive impact in the world.
