Junior School
The Junior School at Nudgee College is a dynamic and nurturing environment where boys are supported to learn, grow and thrive. Our structured and purposeful approach to daily life in Years 5 and 6 ensures that each boy benefits from a balanced experience, one that fosters academic engagement while also allowing time for laughter, friendships and personal development.
The Junior School curriculum covers the core subjects of English, Mathematics, Religious Education, Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS), and Science. In addition, students benefit from specialist instruction in Health and Physical Education, Japanese, Technologies, and the Arts (Music and Visual Arts). Teachers integrate a range of technologies and innovative teaching strategies, including educational videos filmed by the Junior School teachers, year-level Google Sites, and a suite of Google platforms. This digital integration encourages collaborative learning and ensures that students develop essential digital competencies that will support them throughout their schooling.
We take an explicit teaching pedagogical approach, underpinned by current educational research into how boys learn best. This approach provides clarity to students in their learning, builds confidence in their own ability, and helps boys to achieve a deep understanding of key concepts across all subject areas. Preparation for the rigors of secondary school is a key focus. Boys are gradually introduced to the expectations and routines of Nudgee College, including the development of independent study habits, organisational skills, and familiarity with the digital tools used throughout the College.
Each student is supported by a team of dedicated teaching and support staff, as well as by their Year 12 Big Brothers. These senior mentors provide encouragement, guidance and connection, helping our youngest students feel a strong sense of belonging within the broader Nudgee College community. The bonds formed in these early years, and the familiarity with College life, lay the foundation for each boy to embrace his eight-year journey, one filled with infinite opportunities.
