Year 12 Literature Assignments

Year 12 Literature Assignments

Written by Ms Julianne Daunt, Literature teacher and Magee House Dean

The final piece of internal assessment for Year 12 Literature students required them to create an original imaginative written text that demonstrated their ability to craft writing to evoke an emotional or critical response from the audience. It was an independent task, allowing the boys to write in any imaginative form that was predominantly prose. There was a wide variety of genres submitted; narratives, multi-text narratives, first chapters of novels, screenplays and monologues.

Congratulations must also go to Luke Rohan who was awarded 1st prize for A Shadow of Time in Roly Sussex Short Story Competition.

The following three texts are a snapshot of the high quality responses and also the variety of styles and genres.

A Shadow of Time is a narrative by Luke Rohan. His story gently plumbs the depths of a mother’s love for her sons, something that certainly resonates with us at Nudgee College. To read Luke's story, click here.

She Knew... written by Sethum Goonewardena, addresses the contemporary contentious issue of the treatment of our older Australians and beautifully challenges some of the cultural assumptions about old age. To read Sethum's story, click here.

The Goringla Man is the first chapter of a novel and was written by Shannen Gerard-Solker. This coming of age crime-thriller transports the reader to the isolation of far western Queensland, to the fictional town of Goringla where a strange death has occurred. Teenage sleuths are on the trail. To read Shannen's story, click here.

Thank you to Luke, Sethum and Shannen for sharing these imaginative and unique stories with us!
