The teaching staff at Nudgee College includes many dedicated professionals. Please see below for biographies of the teachers of the Business Education Faculty.
Mrs Julianne Daunt, House Dean of Magee House
Julianne has tertiary qualifications in English Literature, Modern and Ancient History and Social Sciences. She has completed a Masters of Education (Leadership and Religious Education) and a Masters of Clinical Counselling. She has taught in both co-educational and single sex Catholic schools. Julianne has taught at the College for 12 years in the areas of Legal Studies, English and English Literature. She also fulfils various QCAA roles such as external exam marker (Legal Studies) and lead confirmer (English).
Mrs Kate Fraikin CA
Kate has tertiary qualifications in Business (majoring in Accounting) and Education. She is a member of the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand. Prior to teaching, Kate worked as a Financial Accountant and Finance Advisor for Shell International Trading and Shipping Ltd in London for six years, in the area of financial derivatives. Previously, she worked for the UK Government as a forensic accountant and as an auditor in Brisbane for a medium sized practice. She is a director and part owner of a coffee company based on the Sunshine Coast. Kate’s main teaching areas are Business and Accounting.
Mr David Fraser, Head of Faculty of Business Education
David has tertiary studies in Economics, Government, Strategic Studies and Education. Prior to teaching, he worked for government and in a range of small businesses. He has taught at the College for more than 25 years, across curriculums with a focus primarily in Economics and Legal Studies. As well as being a teacher, he also actively serves as an infantry officer in the Australian Army Reserve.
Mr George Goves, Subject Coordinator Certificate II, III and Diploma Business
George has tertiary studies in Business (Human Resource Management), Arts (Psychology) and Education. He has taught in co-educational and all boys’ schools in Townsville, London and Brisbane. George recently finished four years in Cotter Boarding House as a Senior Supervisor. He teaches senior Business and Certificate III Business, oversees the Business Diploma and has a QCAA role as an external marker in Business. This is George’s twenty-third year of teaching and his seventh year at Nudgee College.
Mr Paul Kehoe, House Dean of McKenna House
Paul has tertiary studies in Business (Marketing And Public Relations), Commerce, Counselling and Education. Prior to working in education, Paul worked at News Corporation, Astrazeneca Pharmaceuticals and a range of small businesses. Paul has taught at Nudgee College for eight years in the areas of Business, Study of Religion, STEM and Physical Education.
Mrs Robyn Mann, House Dean of Shaw House
Robyn has tertiary studies in Political Science, Anthropology, Asian Studies and Education. She has taught in both co-educational and single sex Catholic schools in Sydney and Brisbane. While teaching in Sydney, Robyn was also a HSC external marker for Ancient History and Economics. Robyn owned and operated a childcare centre for seven years in Brisbane. She has been teaching for 25 years and 17 of those at Nudgee College. Robyn’s teaching areas are Economics, English, Geography, Legal Studies, Japanese and Ancient History.
Mr CJ Massingale, Basketball Director
CJ has a (USA) major in Sociology and a minor in Criminal Justice along with (Australian) tertiary studies in Education. Prior to teaching CJ played professional basketball in various countries before settling in Australia. He has taught in both Lutheran and Catholic schools here in Australia and in the state sector in the United States. CJ’s main teaching areas include Legal Studies, Economics, Business, Humanities and Religion.
Mr Ken Mitchell, Head of the Hodda Boarding House
Ken has a Bachelor of Economics, Graduate Diploma in Education and a Master of Educational Leadership. He began teaching at the College in 2001. Prior to Nudgee College, Ken worked at Waverley College in Sydney where he was also a HSC Economics marker. His subjects include Economics, RE, Law, and SOR.
Mr Michael Phillips, Subject Coordinator Business and Accounting
Michael has tertiary studies in Business (hospitality management) and Education. Prior to teaching, he worked in a variety of managerial positions in tourism (island resorts), hospitality (hotels), and retail (supermarkets and pharmacy). Michael has taught for more than two decades in co-educational and single sex Catholic schools. He has taught at Nudgee College for seven years in the areas of Accounting and Business.
Mr Sam Proctor
Sam has tertiary education in Business, Event Management, Education and Vocational Education. Prior to teaching, he worked in small and large business enterprises. For seven years, he owned and operated a firm that manufactured surfboards. He then worked in marketing for seven years for Australia’s largest healthcare supplier. Sam has taught in both the state and private education sector. Sam’s main teaching areas include Business, Economics and Certificate of Business.
Mr Andrew Scotney
Andrew has tertiary qualifications in Education. He has been teaching at Nudgee College for five years in the areas of Maths, Business/Accounting and Physical Education. This is his second stint in education after earlier teaching for seven years across a variety of schools in Brisbane. Andrew is also the College’s 1st XV Rugby Coach and has previously played and coached at a professional level in Australia, Italy and Japan.
Ms Dee Tyrrell, Director of Pathways
Dee has qualifications in Business (majoring in Accounting) and Economics in addition to Education. She is currently studying her Masters in Educational Studies (Careers, Guidance and Counselling). She worked in the financial services industry for 16 years before joining education 12 years ago. Dee has been at the College for two years and in addition to teaching the Business certificate courses, she oversees the RTO Management, careers education and other pathways issues within the Learning and Teaching team at Nudgee College.
Ms Tara Townsend
Tara has tertiary education in Business, Exercise Science and Education. Prior to teaching, she worked as a program manager for a pain rehabilitation service which aimed to provide patients with strategies to deal with their chronic pain and return to a more functional life. Tara has been teaching at Nudgee College for nine years in the areas of Business/Accounting and Physical Education. During her time at the College, Tara has also been involved in the rowing program and has previously been a member of the Australian Rowing Team, winning multiple world titles.
