The best way to end Term 3 was a visit from our wonderful House Patron Ms Maggie Shaw. Maggie joined the community for our Bake Day to help celebrate the end of term, end of QCS and to wish the boys well in their exams. The boys hold two things close to their hearts – Bake Days and Maggie – and what a great way to combine the two!
Term 3 began with the recognition of excellence to many of our Shaw students. It was with great pleasure the community welcomed Eyzaiah Ulia as Mid Year Prefect. His commitment to the College and Shaw House has been outstanding and was rewarded with a leadership position. This brings our Prefect body to four outstanding young men ‘modelling the way’ in 2019. Several Shaw students were also rewarded for their outstanding sporting prowess: Jacob Martin, Jazz Born and Eric Yang (1st IV Chess); and Eyzaiah Ulia and Will Jones (1st XV Rugby). I would also like to congratulate Tennis Best Team Man Award recipients Tom Ibrahim and Jazz Born.
Our outstanding efforts continued in the classroom with a record number of Shaw students achieving academic awards. Congratulations to the following students:

Wow! Well done to all Shaw students who worked to achieve the very best results to the best of their ability.
This term, Year 7 Shaw took part in the Galilee Day retreat at Shorncliffe Beach. As part of the Student Formation Program, several Year 11 mentors joined the younger students to reflect on their Nudgee College journey thus far and spoke to the Year 7 students about what challenges might face them in their future years, and how to face those challenges with resilience. Thank you to Year 11 students Xavier Nicolaidis, Dylan Hackett, Christian Setefano, Henry Wallis, Howard Yanda and Manraj Birk for being such positive role models on the day. What a glorious day at the beach it was! The Year 10 students are currently on their Immersion Program and we wish them all the very best as this program would be one of our most rewarding and meaningful opportunities that Nudgee College boys experience at the College. From Papua New Guinea to Buru, to Behind the Wire and Starlight, the students will participate in meaningful social justice programs, which are central to our Catholic ethos.
Many Shaw students also participated in the Australian Mathematics Competition. Congratulations James Gray, Isaak Simpson, Jovan Singh, Riley Doherty, George Gillam, Charlie James, Alex Patti, Bailey Brandtman, Jacob Gillam, Jack Wright, Eric Yang, Harveer Birk, Des Cowley, Rodin Martin, Ian Pantaleon and Sam Rogers.
Special mention must be made to the Shaw House Prefects and Big Brothers for their continued dedication and outstanding commitment to all things ‘Shaw’, and for leading the House to victory at Inter-house Track and Field or the third year in a row! The boys have been outstanding in their leadership, effort and good grace.
An amazing 13 Year 11 Shaw students have applied for leadership positions for 2020. These include Manraj Birk, Jazz Born, Charlie Coote, Max Grant, Dylan Hackett, Oliver Horwood, Will Jones, Xavier Nicolaidis, Christian Setefano, Kye Tancred, Henry Wallis, Oahua Davey-Phillips, Horward Yanda and Joshua Papa. We wish these students every success in the coming weeks and congratulate them on their nominations. Our last House Mass was a very special event as it was the last House Mass for our Year 12 Shaw students. Shaw and Tierney House joined together to share this moment with our Senior students.
As always, I am extremely proud of the fine young men of Shaw House and I congratulate them on their success this term and the community that they represent. A very sincere thank you must also be extended to our wonderful parents who continue to support the Shaw community with Bake Days, raffle prizes and for supporting the many House activities and drives! To our House parents, my sincere thank you for all the grace you bring to the community. Thank you also to the many generous parent helpers who have supported all things Shaw.
Term 3 has been another action packed, exciting, challenging and rewarding term. In true form, the Shaw students rose to the occasion by excelling in academic, sporting and cultural activities. Events such as the Year 12 Formal, Year 11 Semi Formal, Year 10 Immersion Program, QCS, Galilee Day, GPS Rugby, Basketball and Chess, music performances, Dimensions Arts Festival, Shaw House Social Justice Week, Year 6 camp, Year 7 and 9 Retreat days, saw students in all year levels kept busy in all areas of College life. Congratulations on an excellent and exciting term.
Lastly, may we continue to hold our families who have experienced stressful times, illness and the loss of loved ones close in our thoughts and hearts. In particular, we pray for the Pritchard-Malaki family.
I wish everyone a safe and relaxing break and look forward to Term 4.
