Shaw House has had another busy term - from Showcase to the classroom, to the sporting field, musical performances, retreats, bake days and birthdays. The Shaw community has embraced and thrived in all things Nudgee College. The school term began with take 2: Showcase. The Shaw seniors selected the theme “Brotherhood” and chose to highlight the theme through the important message of Mental Health. I was thrilled to see all the Shaw boys embrace the theme and win the Inter-House event; a truly awesome effort.
Year 9 students attended their retreat day with Mrs Burton and I at Hendra for a day of reflection in response to the Emmaus story. The students shared their life journey and were challenged to create a prayer stick; as well as to ask themselves where they saw God in their life. Years 5 and 6 also had fun this term with their camp retreats and were lucky with fabulous weather. Our Free Dress Day was quite a success this term and we ran with the theme to dress in our House colour or Hawaiian shirts. Overall, Shaw House raised $512 for our House Charity, Queensland Epilepsy Foundation. Thank you Shaw boys for embracing the day and raising an enormous donation. We all look forward to a pizza lunch in Term 3.
We also celebrated Maggie Shaw’s 94th birthday. Prefects Degen Beschel, Frank Bundock and Cameron Reppel along with Big Brothers Sam Rogers, Callum Dodds, Hugh Osborne, Elijah Tiso and Boarding Captain Rodin Martin joined me to visit Maggie on her birthday. As a community, we will celebrate Maggie’s birthday together in Term 3 when the weather is warmer. Many, many thanks to the generous contributions towards the yummy treats for Bake Day this term, the boys look forward to these Bake Days.

Again, a most sincere thank you to our House Mother Anne Gray and the merry band of helpers and many parents for attending Showcase and providing for Bake days; your support and effort is so greatly appreciated and is what makes our community a family.
