After a successful performance at the Theatre Sports Semi Final on Tuesday 26 July, the College’s Senior A team has qualified to compete in the Grand Final at the Brisbane Powerhouse next month. The team comprises of Year 12 students Angus McHugh, Clancy Nugent, Angus McLeod, Will Lambert and Oscar McDonald.
Looking back over the season, Clancy said performing in front of big Nudgee College crowds has been a highlight.
“The audiences this year have been awesome; it’s so good to see how many people enjoy coming to see us perform,” he said.
“I really enjoy making people laugh, and I find the attempt to make something funny out of nothing a really enjoyable, tough and rewarding challenge.”
The five performers started taking part in Theatre Sports in either Year 8, 9 or 10. Oscar said it has been great to see how everyone has improved over the years.
“Theatre Sports is a difficult thing, but I love the challenge of improvised theatre,” he said.
As College Captain, Angus McHugh is regularly placed in front of an audience; however with Theatre Sports, he said he enjoys providing humour to their viewers.
"My highlight of the season so far was definitely getting announced as the winner in the Semi Final - after all the hard work we had progressed to the Grand Final," he said.
In preparation for the Grand Final, Angus McLeod said the team may create new and interesting games to perform to help improve their skills; however ultimately, they will play the way they have been playing all season.
“If we do this, I think we have a good shot at the title,” he said.
The date for the Grand Final is yet to be set; however when it is, ticket prices and more information will be available at brisbanepowerhouse.org(external link).
