            "With those in need"

Sunday October 11, 2009

Nudgee College Rowing Shed
Davies Park Rowing Complex
Jane Street, West End

What’s it all about?

The Barralong Corporate Regatta is a fun rowing event supporting our local Big Brekky and Big BBQ  community programs. It is targeting groups, businesses or individuals, who want to get involved and enjoy themselves. No previous experience is required, just join in and have fun. There are men, women and mixed crews of all ages.

What’s in it for you?

It’s a great opportunity to build team work, between departments or divisions, advertise your business, get fitter, learn to row and have lots of fun in a great environment. All this comes together on Regatta Day, which is a great day for all crews, supporters, families and all involved.

What’s in it for us?

The Barralong Corporate Regatta is a fundraising event for improving infrastructure for our Local Community Programs and for the College Rowing Shed. Funds raised will go towards improving transport for the Big Brekky and Big BBQ initiatives and will also go towards the purchase and maintenance of new equipment and boats. It will also contribute to continuing and improving our coaching programs so that boys can enjoy a sport that benefits their health and fitness in a team environment.

What do we organise for you?

We provide boats, equipment and facilities for your team. We provide coaching to teach you how to row and improve your skills. We can provide a coxswain if needed. We coordinate crews and coaches for the training sessions so that you are prepared for the “Regatta Day”. We provide continental breakfast after the weekday  training session and a hot breakfast after the Sunday training session. Shower and change room facilities are available at the Rowing Sheds.

What we ask you to do?

To form a crew get together :

  • 5 people (4 rowers and a coxswain)
  • 9 people (8 rowers and a coxswain)

We can provide a coxswain if required. Alternatively, if you cannot raise a crew, call us and we can organise one for you. You can even organise a corporate uniform for each team member (t-shirts, hats, logo etc).We can help with this and put you in contact with our supplier. There will be a prize for the best dressed crew!

Complete the Barralong 2009 Registration Form (PDF, 314kb) and send it to us as soon as possible.

When, where and how?

Training commences on Sunday 30th August, 2009 at the Nudgee Rowing Shed, Jane Street, West End. Crews will be introduced to the shed safety procedure, an initial row and finish with a Meet & Greet BBQ. Crews usually train twice a week. There will be three (3) weeks of training with a one (1) week break during the school holidays to allow you to recover for the final two (2) week run in to the event. The Regatta day is Sunday 11th October, 2009. On race day, each crew will have at least two races with the teams being handicapped so everyone gets a fair chance. Handicaps will be based on experience, age, sex... or how much you can pay to bribe the right people!
