Child Protection Week at Nudgee
September 3, 2007
St Joseph's Nudgee College is raising awareness among students and staff of National Child Protection Week, September 2-8, 2007.
National Child Protection Week is coordinated nationally by the National Association for Child Abuse and Neglect (NAPCAN). The week promotes the value of children and focuses attention on the issues of child abuse and neglect.
Nudgee School Counsellors Mark Sayer and Matthew Ryall will act as Child and Youth Protection Contacts and provide students and staff with information on child protection to help raise awareness of the week.
"Child protection is all about preventing and reducing the risk of harm against children in any shape or form, and could include sexual, physical and emotional abuse or neglect," Mr Ryall said.
Mr Sayer will also address the entire school at this week's assembly on the topic of Child Protection.
Other national events for Child Protection Week include White Balloon Day, this Tuesday, September 4, 2007. NAPCAN encourages all individuals and groups of the community on a national level to fly a white balloon as a symbol of strength and support for survivors of child sexual assault.
