With 2008 fast drawing to a close, and this year's Senior class officially completing their St Joseph's Nudgee College journey last week, it is time to introduce the College Captains for 2009.

College Captain - Dennis O'Keeffe

Dennis began his Nudgee College journey as a Year 8 boarder whose great grandfather and grandfather attended the College.

Originally from Dalby, Dennis's parents moved to Brisbane after he had started at Nudgee College but he liked the lifestyle and friends he had made while boarding so much that he has remained a boarder.

Becoming College Captain wasn't something Dennis had really thought about before the nomination process.

"My peers nominated me even before I had thought about nominating," he said. "I thought about it for a while and finally decided that I could do the job and I could make a difference."

Dennis is still thinking about what he wants to achieve as College Captain but he does know he wants to be involved across all areas of the College, even though that will take some juggling.

"I play more sport than the previous Captains but I'm fairly organised and I know if I start to have trouble the others in the boarding house will help him out."

College Vice Captains

As a group the 2009 Nudgee College Vice Captains have one main thing they want to achieve:

"The 2008 Vice Captains believe that they've done a good job. They have supported Rod and have led Nudgee well. If we can say the same thing as the Vice Captains of 2008 at this time next year, we will be happy."

Luca Masinello

The son of 1969 Old Boy Nicholas, Luca has been at Nudgee College since Year 8. His uncle and cousins also attended the College.

Luca has been involved in numerous sports and activities during his time at Nudgee College including basketball, rugby and debating.

With a desire to make a difference and a love for the people and Nudgee community as a whole, Luca's aim for his time as College Vice Captain is simple: "I want to make Nudgee a better place for after we go"

Sorogo Mills

Originally from Thursday Island, Sorogo first came to Nudgee College as a boarder in Year 8. He left the College at the end of that year but returned in Year 10 and has been here since.

Sorogo has a strong interest in cultural events and has been involved in various College activities such as the musical, basketball, rugby and AFL.

He wanted to be a College Captain so he could inspire others to achieve what they want too, particularly those back on Thursday Island.

Sorogo is looking forward to further celebrating the multi-cultural side of Nudgee College in 2009 and hopes to bring the Year 12 student body together so the whole year level leads.

Ted Postal

Ted has been a stand out student since arriving at Nudgee College in Year 8. He has won several academic awards, including a merit award in Year 8, and was awarded the Dux of Year 11 French this year.

However, it is not just in the academic arena where Ted shines. He has been involved in rowing and cross country and was a member of this year's undefeated First XV.

For his efforts he was awarded the Best Forward - First XV and the Br D.V. Wallis C.F.C Trophy for the First XV's Best and Fairest.

Ted's favourite part of Nudgee College is its diversity and his goal as Vice Captain is simply to be a good leader.

Curtis Skinner

Curtis started at Nudgee College in Year 8.

He has received numerous academic awards during his time at the College including the Leonardo da Vinci Award in Year 9. He was Proxime Accessit in Years 8 and 10 and Dux of his year level in Year 9. He was also awarded Dux of Year 11 Marine Studies in 2007 and Dux of Year 11 Visual Arts this year.

Curtis is excited about his Vice Captain role in 2009 and is looking forward to being involved in various activities.

"It's an exciting time to be a leader with all the changes that are happening at the moment with the introduction of Years 5 - 7 and the cultural side of things. I am looking forward to being able to be involved with all of that."
