Under 14s win Bronze on Volleyball Tour
December 19, 2008
Director of Volleyball Clinton Wright reports on the Melbourne Volleyball Tour and our Under 14s bronze win.
Over 30 people toured to Melbourne in the second week of December for the Australian Volleyball Schools Cup (AVSC), which is a key preparation event for the 2009 GPS Season. AVSC is Australia's largest sporting event for high school students with over 400 competing schools from Australia and New Zealand.
The standard of volleyball at this year's tour was excellent. The boys competed outstandingly with many close games won. The Open team finished 8th out of 29 teams and the Under 17s team finished 10th in their respective comps. The highlight of the week was the Under 14s wining the Bronze Medal. The boys played approximately 10 games over the five day tournament.
Each year on the final night the touring team enjoys a dinner and presentation of awards. The awards are as follows:

Opens (Yr 11)
- Most Valuable Player: Harry McKeon
- Most Improved Player: Tom Pratt.
Under 17s (Yr10/9)
- Most Valuable Player: Michael Pizzica

The teams also visited the National Sports Museum, experienced the MCG Tour, saw 360 degree views of the city from 88 floors up Eureka Tower and got competitive with Laser Skirmish.
