Three of Nudgee College's Year 11 students, Corey Barsby, Tim Gregory and Jason Tibbits, have been selected in the Queensland U17 cricket team.

The boys' selection means they will now travel to Perth in January to represent the state at the National U17 Championships.

Team Captain and opening batsman Corey Barsby said he was excited to make the team and even more excited to be Captain.

"It's going to be great," he said.

"My goal after I leave school is to play cricket so to be selected for Queensland and be Captain is really good and something I'm really looking forward too."

Fellow opening batsman Tim Gregory wasn't confident about making the team but was glad he did.

"I wasn't sure if I'd make the team as there are always a lot of country kids that come down for the trials and you just never know what they're going to be like," he said.

Corey and Tim were both members of this year's Nudgee College First XI. They will join the rest of their 2009 team mates for the latter part of Christian Brothers Cricket Week, an annual event held at Nudgee College, after returning from Perth.

Corey, Tim and Jason, a wicket keeper, will officially begin rep duties in trial matches to be held in Brisbane next week.

Nudgee College First XI coaches Mr John Stackpoole and Mr Matt Hawkins, congratulated all three boys on their selection and said they should be very proud of their efforts.

"Making a state team is always a wonderful achievement and the boys should be very proud of themselves," they said.

"Corey had a fantastic season for us this year. He was our highest run-scorer and received the team's Best Allrounder Award while Tim nearly always successfully saw off the opening bowlers, making the job of his team mates easier."

Adding to Nudgee College's representation at national championship level is Old Boy Chris Lynn. The 2007 senior will captain the Queensland U19 team at the U19 National Championships to be held in Newcastle from December 8-19, 2008.

Teams from all Australian states and the two Territories compete in both the U17 and U19 Championships.

The event is organised by Cricket Australia and is hosted by the states on a rotation basis.

Teams are divided into two pools with each state playing a one day match against teams not in their pool and a two day match against those in their pool. The winner is decided on points at the end of the Championships.
