St Joseph’s Nudgee College capped a remarkable 2011 GPS Tennis season recently by being crowned premiers for the first time since 2003.

Head of Tennis Mr Troy Lewis reports on the team’s season.

The 1st IV team of Charl van den Berg (Team Captain), Brandon Daly-Walkin, Mitchell Robbins, Alec Gelardo and John James (coach) deserve praise for their dedication to training, application on match days, teamwork and Nudgee College Spirit shown throughout the year.

The team had a very good season with six wins, a draw and a loss enough to claim a joint premiership with BGS and BBC.

1st IV results throughout the season were:

  • ACGS – won 7-1
  • TSS – won 7-1
  • BSHS – draw (rain)
  • GT – won 8-0
  • IGS – won 6-2
  • TGS – won 8-0
  • BGS – won 5-3
  • BBC – lost 2-6

Special congratulations go to Mitchell Robbins who remained undefeated in singles during the season; Alex Swain (one tie) and Hayden Greig (replacement for one match) who represented the Nudgee College 1st IV during the season; and Charl van den Berg for his inspirational singles match against BBC.

Thanks to Mr Gary Stickler (Head of Lifetime Tennis) and to all Nudgee College players, coaches and parents for your support of the 1st IV this year. I look forward to the 2012 season!

The Tennis premiership was the fourth GPS success for Nudgee College in 2011. The College also took out the GPS Swimming Championship, rowing’s Head of the River and the rugby premiership.
