Super 6s a Smash
March 17, 2009
St Joseph's Nudgee College Cricket Program Manager Mark Ensor reports on the success and excitement of the inaugural Super 6s carnival.
Last Friday evening, Nudgee College hosted the inaugural Super 6s carnival. Despite the Year 8 and 9 competition being cancelled due to rain, the senior competition went ahead.
The evening was a mixture of serious cricket and fun with each team consisting of a Year 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 cricketer plus a current 1st XI member as captain.
Every team played four preliminary games on the flats before the only two undefeated teams, Maccas Kings, made up of Josh McClelland (C), Brett Cronin, Ben Arnold, Kunaal Kumar, Patrick James, and Sirtaaj Singh, and Timmys Tipans, consisting of Tim Gregory (C), Anthony Browne, Michael McHenry, Shaun Harvey, Ryan Kay, and Rory Young, played the final on Wilkes Oval under lights. Timmys Tipans were too strong winning the final by 12 runs.
The real spirit of the evening became evident when all teams dressed up for the occasion. Who can forget Barsbys Bashers, Dolans Destroyers, Hutchos Hackers or Swepos Smashers?
We thank the Cricket Support Group, led by Des Swepson and Wayne Shooks, for their efforts in coordinating the carnival, along with many parents who volunteered their time to help with various roles including umpiring, organising the players outfits, ground setup and running the food and drink stand.
Thanks also to Greg Tibbits (at the Greg Chappell Cricket Centre) for donating caps for the Year 5 and 6 helpers and Andrew McDonald for emceeing the final.
If you happened to miss this year's Super 6s Carnival, make a point of joining in the fun and festivities in 2010.
