Double Swimming Celebration

Members of the St Joseph’s Nudgee College Swimming Teams are celebrating after winning both the CIC and GPS Championships.

Head of GPS Swimming Mr Andrew McDonald reports on the College’s latest back to back GPS Swimming Championship, Nudgee College’s 17th GPS Swimming Championship overall.

Congratulations to the 2010 GPS Swimming Team for achieving a convincing victory last Friday night. The team performed exceptionally to dominate the championships with most swimmers achieving personal best times.

A special mention to Zac Whenuaroa for breaking the GPS and Nudgee College record in the 16 Years 50m Butterfly, and to Jared Gilliland and Buster Sykes for breaking Nudgee College records in the 15 Years 50 m Breaststroke and Open 100 m Breaststroke respectively.

Congratulations to the following award winners this season:

  • Most Oustanding Individual Swim at GPS (Under 13) - Hadyn Lane
  • Most Oustanding Individual Swim at GPS (Under 14) - Doug Oliver
  • Most Oustanding Individual Swim at GPS (Under 15) - Jared Gilliland and Jack Mcloughlin
  • Most Oustanding Individual Swim at GPS (Under 16) - Zac Whenuaroa
  • Most Oustanding Individual Swim at GPS (Open) - Zac Taylor
  • Best Team Man - Beaumane Silao
  • Boevink Family Trophy (Highest Individual Points Scorer at GPS) - Zac Whenuaroa and Buster Sykes
  • College Champion - Buster Sykes

Thank you to all those who played a role in the 2010 season, in particular, Messrs Matt Brown, Gerard Alexander, Jeff Campbell and Old Boys Messrs Cam Lofstedt, Chris Eisentrager, Taylor Murtha, Ben Donaldson, and Daniel Price. A special thanks to the Activities Office, in particular Mr Mark Ensor for his assistance this year.

Finally, thank you to the large number of Nudgee College men who never fail to come and support the swim team each year.

It was a convincing win for Nudgee College taking the Championship with 347 points, 96 points ahead of Brisbane Grammar School (251) and 107 points ahead of third placed The Southport School (240).

Not to be outdone, swimmers in Years 5 to 7 won the Green Division of the CIC Swimming Championships in only their second year of competition.

“To win the CIC-GPS double in only our second year of CIC competition is a wonderful achievement,” Director of Activities (Sporting and Culture) Mr Peter Todd said. 

“It is a great result for Nudgee College Swimming from Years 5-12.”
