Van receives blessing

The Nudgee College Community Barbeque Van was blessed by Fr John Gillen at this week’s College Assembly as a celebration of the Nudgee College community working together.
The Van has the College’s strategic goals DIVERSITY, JUSTICE and COMMUNITY proudly displayed and its primary uses will be to service the College’s social justice programs including Big Brekky, Big Barbie, Homework Help Club and Street Swags.
“As a Catholic school in the Edmund Rice Tradition, Nudgee College has a history of helping those in need and encouraging students to become Signum Fidei – Signs of Faith,” said Acting Dean of Identity Mr Stephen Meara.
“The Van is a blessing and a wonderful gift and will help us enormously in our outreach programs. We thank our sponsors very much and we pray that everything we continue to do show our young men are growing into Signs of Faith.”
Principle Sponsors of the Van were publically acknowledged at the Assembly. They include Rohrig Constructions, Konica Minolta, Mercedes Benz, AE Smith, Nudgee College Ladies’ Auxiliary, Barralong Corporate Regatta, NC Rugby Support Group, NC Football Support Group, and the Nudgee College Old Boys’ Association.
Rohrig Construction fitted out the Van with state of the art cooking and storage facilities and were supported by NGA Commercial Glazing, Ascot Demolitions, Wall Line, Pulse Electrical, Cair Air Conditioning, Apex Contractors, Queensport Furniture, Hirns Commercial Floorcoverings, Carroll & Murphy, and Queensland Stainless. Personalised Plates Queensland supplied the number plate NC120 to mark the College’s 120th year.
The Big Brekky and Big Barbie programs, run by students and College staff 52 weeks of the year, feed an average of 140 people at Kemp Place Fortitude Valley and the Alpha Caravan Park Aspley each Tuesday.
Approximately 15,500 Street Swags have been rolled by Nudgee College students to date and distributed to main stream charities all around Australia.
