Currently enrolled school students (18 years and under) can take part in the competition held at St Joseph's Nudgee College.

From 11am-7pm the bands will play a variety of music styles in hope of winning a $1000 gift voucher from sponsor Billy Hyde Music.

Second prize is a $250 voucher while judges will award spot prizes to individual talents.

Judges for the competition include well known Australian drummer Johnny "JD" Dick and a representative of Billy Hyde Music.

JD has been billed as an Australian rock legend and has played with a variety of highly successful bands and artists including Max Merritt and the Meteors, Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs, the Bee Gees, and Natalie Cole.

He has also been musical director for both Daryl Braithwaite and John Paul Young, and has played with Eric Clapton in the States.

In addition to being a judge for Battle of the Bands, JD will run a workshop with music students at Nudgee College on Monday June 2, 2008.

The Battle of the Bands competition allows Brisbane bands to perform in front of industry judges and provides under 18 members with a venue to play original music as well as covers.

Due to their age, many under 18 performers are restricted in opportunities to perform as most professional venues are licensed premises.

Bands wishing to enter the Battle of the Bands competition should download an entry form from the Festival pages and post it along with a demo tape, CD or DVD. Entry is free and all entries must be received by Friday May 9, 2008.

Battle of the Bands is a part of the 2008 Nudgee Festival. The Nudgee Festival runs from 24-31 May, beginning with a DimensionsNC cocktail gala on May 24 and concluding with a full day of entertainment. With competitions (including Battle of the Bands), stalls, great food and wine, this year's Nudgee Festival promises to be the best yet.
