St Joseph’s Nudgee College students got autographs and spent some informal time with Queensland Reds players when they visited the College last week.

Head of Rugby Mr Anthony Connellan reports on the visit.

The Queensland Reds have actively engaged in a partnership with Nudgee College and to launch this relationship had five players visit the College last Thursday. Many boys took the opportunity to meet their heroes from Queensland’s Super Rugby Team the Reds.

Nudgee College Old Boys Will Chambers (NCOB 2005) and Dominic Shipperley (NCOB 2008) joined Leroy Houston, Greg Holmes, Guy Shepherdson and Rusty the Koala, signing autographs, posing for photos, playing handball and touch with the boys and handing out information regarding the 2011 Super Rugby season.

Will and Dominic were both outstanding, arriving early to catch up with staff and then engaging all the young Nudgee College boys who one day aspire to achieve similar feats. They are brilliant role models for the boys and two young men the College can be very proud of.

Last year was a great year for the Reds and 2011 looks like being even better with an extended competition meaning more home games against the best teams the competition can throw at them.

The Reds intend taking a bigger role with Nudgee College Rugby for the 2011 season offering a higher presence and professional assistance where possible. We will be talking to the Reds about opportunities and we will keep you informed.

Reds Coach Ewen McKenzie is leading a push for 15,000 members, who will be known as ‘The First XV’, saying that if you are a Queenslander you need to be a member.
