St Joseph's Nudgee College Old Boys Brendan Ostwald and Dan Keating returned to the College yesterday to speak to students about scholarships being offered by Ostwald Bros.

1984 Old Boy Brendan Ostwald runs Ostwald Bros., a civil engineering and construction company based in Dalby, with his brothers, and fellow Nudgee College Old Boys Dan (NCOB 1985), Brian (NCOB 1988), and Matt (NCOB 1995).

The company is offering a number of Education Scholarships to current students in a range of areas including diesel fitting, boiler making, civil engineering, surveying, plant and machinery operations, accounting, and business management.

"The reason why Ostwald Bros. is doing this is to invest in the future," Ostwald said.

"We are always looking for skilled workers and have worked with the Toowoomba Ag College for the past 9 years. Every person who we have assisted while they’ve been at the College still works for us today which is amazing."

Brendan told the assembly that he and his brothers are proud of where they were educated and offering scholarships to current Nudgee College students is a way to give something back.

"I never got top marks and was never a top sportsman while I was here but Nudgee College taught me so much and allowed me to have the life I do. Offering scholarships to current students is a way for us to give something back."

2008 Old Boy Dan Keating received one of the Ostwald Bros. scholarships last year. He is currently studying a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree at UQ. Ostwald Bros. is paying Dan’s HECS fees and in return Dan gains valuable work experience by working with the company during university holidays.

"I heard about the scholarships late last year," Keating said.

"I would recommend the scholarship to anyone who is considering a career in civil engineering and construction and extend my gratitude to Ostwald Bros. for everything they have done."
