Principal Daryl Hanly officially launched the Nudgee College Master Plan at the College Awards Night on 1 November.

The Plan has been under development and refinement for the past 18 months, and was recently endorsed by Xaiver Province.

Mr Hanly advised the College community that "the Master Plan is ambitious, but such a plan has to be".

He quoted Daniel Burnham (1864-1912), a celebrated American architect and city planner:

"Make no little plans. They have no magic to stir men's blood and probably will not themselves be realised. Make big plans, aim high in hope and work, remembering that a noble, logical diagram once recorded will never die, but long after we are gone will be a living thing, asserting itself with ever growing insistency. Remember that our sons and grandsons are going to do things that would stagger us."

Mr Hanly said he was particularly inspired by the last sentence: "Remember that our sons and grandsons are going to do things that would stagger us".

"When developing the Master Plan we knew our responsibility lay decades beyond 2008," Mr Hanly said.

"I believe this Master Plan will provide the facilities to underpin education at Nudgee for years to come, giving all our boys the very best chance to fulfil their life potential, and ultimately stagger us with their achievements."

Mr Hanly mentioned several projects in his presentation, in particular the redevelopment of the O'Neill Building into new classrooms and facilities for Years 5, 6 and 7.

"The commencement of these year levels will be historic for Nudgee. From 2008, we will be a Year 5 to 12 College. Offering this extended depth of education for boys has been very well received and our 2008 intake is at capacity," he said.

"As a consequence, places for 2009 will be increased to fifty boys in each year level, in response to demand," Mr Hanly said.

Information about 2009 Middle School enrolments can be found here.

Other projects highlighted by Mr Hanly included:

  • Duhig Classroom Refurbishment - all 15 classrooms in the building will be refurbished and modernised, ready for commencement of 2008.
  • Treacy (or Main) Building - the Middle and Northern Wings will be refurbished over 2008, ultimately the building will once again become the main entrance to Nudgee College.

You can view more information about these and the other Master Plan projects at the Nudgee Building Fund page. More information will be available next week.
