Nudgee community gathers for Business Network Breakfast

Nudgee's first Business Breakfast for 2008 was held on Wednesday February 28 and hailed as a success by all who attended.
The breakfast was designed as a way for members of the Nudgee community to network with other Nudgee families, as well as those from surrounding businesses.
About 50 people from a variety of industries including automotive, tourism, finance, recruitment and the professional sector attended the breakfast.
Guest speaker Linda Lowndes, inventor and director of Microskin International, spoke about the importance of believing in yourself and your product and not giving up on your dreams when things get tough.
"When I first started developing Microskin I had no experience in cosmetic chemistry or anything like that. I was a make-up artist who had worked on major films but had no idea about designing a product such as Microskin", said Ms Lowndes during her presentation.
"Experts kept telling me that I was crazy and should stick to the make-up but I was determined to help people who had been badly burnt or had skin conditions that affected their confidence. My family and I worked long hours, seven days a week researching, testing, modifying."
"We were all exhausted and financially things were tough but we were so passionate about this product and believed in it so much that we just kept going."
Linda said she believed this passion was something everyone needs to have in their work and in their life.
"When you're passionate about something you live it, breathe it, even dream about it. It's important because it is that passion that will see you through when set-backs happen and things aren't working out exactly as you'd planned," she said.
Principal Mr Daryl Hanly said Linda's passion for Microskin was a great example of what can be achieved when people follow their passion.
"Linda's passion for Microskin is obvious," said Mr Hanly. "We all need something we are passionate about and it is something we try to teach our students here at Nudgee. Whether it's on the sporting field or in the classroom, we work hard as a College to offer a wide range of subjects and experiences that provide all boys with an opportunity to follow their passion."
