Helping Virginia celebrate
October 27, 2010
Nudgee College music students and members of the Cattle Club helped Virginia State Primary School celebrate its 90th anniversary recently when they attended the school’s fete.
The NC Drum Line and Rock Band 2 both performed while the Cattle Club ran a Poo Lotto and had a display.
“On Saturday 23 October the NC Drum Line and Rock Band 2 were invited guests at the Virginia State School 90th Anniversary Fete,” said Coordinator of College Music Mr Brad Voltz.
“The Drum Line were very well received, performing on both the main stage, and moving through the crowd.
“Rock Band 2 played for 40 minutes just before the final fireworks display. The boys enjoyed entertaining the large crowd gathered on the school oval and both performances were most successful,” he said.
The Cattle Club’s contribution was in stark contrast to the rehearsed performances of the music students but still provided attendees with plenty of entertainment.
“The Cattle Club helped Virginia State Primary School raise funds by running a Poo Lotto,” said Farm Manager Mr Alastair Woods.
As the name suggests, Poo Lotto involves placing numbers on cardboard squares with the winner being the square where the animal’s poo lands.
“Representatives from Virginia State School sold tickets for the numbered squares which was a good fundraising activity for them,” Mr Woods said.
“People at the fete also spoke with the Nudgee College students about the Cattle Club and the College and we had a few Old Boys come and say hi as well.”
