Trade Training Centre construction commences
February 17, 2011
Construction of the regional Trade Training Centre at St Joseph’s Nudgee College has commenced with the new facilities on track to begin classes in Term 4.
Despite experiencing lengthy delays with grant applications during last years elections, heavy rains and subsequent floods the new $2.7m Regional Trade Training Centre has started to take shape as it emerges from its foundations.
With the assistance of a government grant ($1.65m) the new Regional Trade Training Centre is expected to be completed by July and fully operational for Term 4, 2011.
The new centre is adjacent to the refurbished Tierney Auditorium and will include:
• three construction workshops
• construction project and fabrication open space
• two engineering workshops including 24 welding bays and 12 grinding bays
• engineering project and fabrication open work space, and
• one group learning area.
Each workshop will be fully equipped with the most recent technology and machinery setting a new standard for construction facilities within the education system.
Nudgee College has been recognised nationally for its Vocational Education and Training (VET) program and its students are often sought out by industry leaders. These new facilities will allow Nudgee College to offer a further 60 students the opportunity to gain their Certificate 1 in Construction and / or Engineering.
