It was a case of science in action yesterday as Year 7 St Joseph's Nudgee College students launched paper aeroplanes from the top floor of the Duhig building.

There were plenty of excited faces as the students from Year 7B tested the flight time of their self made paper aeroplanes during the very hands on Science experiment.

"The boys have been studying Physics in Science and in particular, aerodynamics," teacher Ms Nicola Bone said.

"Students were required to design a paper aeroplane using their knowledge of the principles of flight; gravity, thrust, drag and lift. It required them to build a paper plane that maximised lift and thrust, while minimising the impact of gravity and drag.”

"Launching the planes from Duhig helped the boys determine the design with the best flight aerodynamics."

Science is a core subject in the Nudgee College curriculum. Students in Years 5-9 undertake all areas of Science as part of their studies.

Senior students can chose to study the specialist areas Agricultural Science, Biological Science, Chemistry, Marine Studies, and Physics.
