Musicians to begin tour
July 14, 2011
Members of St Joseph’s Nudgee College’s Rock Bands 1 and 2 will perform at several regional schools from July 17–22 as part of the College’s sixth annual Music Tour.
This year’s trip will see the boys travel to Mitchell, Roma, Blackall, Barcaldine, Longreach, Emerald, and Biloela. They will make seven performances during the Tour, including performing at a community event in Barcaldine.
Students making the trip are Guy Stacey, Ryan Barber, Callum Gribbin, Liam Roberts, Tom Perrau, Sebastien Hetzel, Jed Nelson, Joe Fleming, Ryan Stewart, Darcy Bermingham, Barton Truasheim, and Mitch Peereboom.
“The performance experience gained through touring provides valuable support for work undertaken as part of Senior Music studies at the College,” said Coordinator of College Music Mr Brad Voltz.
The students going on this year’s tour are mostly Year 12 students with the exception being Sebastien who is in Year 11. All students are members of College Rock Bands 1 and 2.
Of the 12 students touring only one is a boarder but he is not from the areas being visited. For all participating students, the experience of travelling and performing in regional Queensland will be interesting and will help develop them as budding musicians and as young Nudgee College men.
“The boys touring this year are looking forward to learning more about themselves, strengthening friendships and cohesion as a band and being entertainers,” said Mr Voltz.
The first major Nudgee College Music Tour was held in 2006 with the group touring to St George, Cunnamulla, Charleville and Roma.
Mr Voltz believes tours such as this are important for the College as they take current students back to the very origins of Nudgee College and allow members of the College to catch up with current and past families and Old Boys.
“We do hope to catch up with past families and many Old Boys. Nudgee College is very committed to the people in the bush. We educate and care for their sons as Nudgee College boarders and see it as our responsibility to maintain a healthy link with them and the land,” he said.
The schools the students will perform at during the week-long tour are St Joseph’s Catholic School Blackall, St Joseph’s Primary School Barcaldine, Our Ladies Primary School Longreach, Longreach State School, St Patrick’s School Emerald, St Joseph’s School Biloela, and Biloela State School.
