Students across three year levels received lessons in physical theatre this week when they were visited by performance artists from the Queensland Arts Council and Zen Zen Zo Physical Theatre.

St Joseph’s Nudgee College students in Years 7, 9 and 10 were taught about energy levels, focus and endurance by "warriors" from Zen Zen Zo.

"Zen Zen Zo are performance artists who specialise in physical theatre which is using the body to represent emotions, tell stories and entertain," Acting Head of Drama Ms Danielle Bonanno said.

"The performers came to extend the students knowledge of this particular genre and demonstrate their expertise as performers," she said.

The interactive workshops showed students the difference between energy levels when performing, including discussing the optimal energy level required, and had the students undertake group work where they practised their focus and endurance skills.

"Everything we have done today has taught you about creating characters. Nothing in the performance was real, we just used dramatic elements to create the characters," performer Frankie said.

"Today you learnt about using energy, focus and endurance to become warriors but these are also valuable skills you can use in everyday life," she said.

Students in Years 7 to 9 undertake Drama classes as part of their studies.

Drama is an elective, Authority subject for Senior students which means results count towards an individual’s OP.
