"Fortitudine et prudential - With Courage and Skill"

Br J V Riley (1908–1978) spent eleven years at Nudgee College (1948–1958). Br Riley was a quiet achiever, concentrating his energies on the development of sport and sports facilities. He was Sports Master, an outstanding rugby referee, and Coach of the 1st XV and the 1st XI. With the support of students, he built the nine-hole golf course, and prepared the Nudgee College turf wickets. Because of his interest in boxing, Br Riley built a boxing ring where the present Administration Building stands.

Br Riley’s contribution to Nudgee College was further extended through his involvement in the Nudgee College Cadet Corps and his dedication to excellent practice in the classroom.
