From equity to leadership
Nudgee College has a long and proud history of catering for the educational needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Our approach to this endeavour was formalised in 1993 with the establishment of the Indigenous Education Program, the Student Support Team and associated programs.
Since formalising the Indigenous Education Program, more than 430 Indigenous students have benefited from a Nudgee College education.
In the spirit of honouring the work of the Christian Brothers and the founder of the equity program at Nudgee College – Br Marty McHugh – the Nudgee College Indigenous Bursary Fund has been established to help fund those Indigenous students who are not eligible for funding from our generous partner, Australian Indigenous Education Foundation (AIEF) and who therefore may not otherwise benefit from a Nudgee College education.
Who can apply and how?
The Indigenous Bursary Fund is open to new students of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander decent entering Years 8-11 only, who wish to benefit from a Nudgee College education and can demonstrate achievement in academic, cultural, sporting or vocational excellence, or for reasons of equity.
Submissions are assessed on individual merit. Applicants should view the Indigenous Bursary Fund brochure for more information on how to apply, what should be provided, how long a bursary lasts and what is expected of a bursary recipient before contacting the Enrolments Registrar at enrolments@nudgee.com for an Indigenous enrolment application and Indigenous bursary pack.
Donating to the Indigenous Bursary Fund
The Nudgee College Indigenous Bursary Fund seeks the support of the private and corporate sectors to achieve its ambitious goal of being able to support the tuition fees of up to 20 students every year. With an Indigenous student retention rate of 91 per cent compared with the national average of 47 per cent, Indigenous students and their families are seeking the support of Nudgee College in record numbers and it will only be through the generosity of our benefactors that we achieve this significant milestone.
If you are able to assist the bursary fund directly by making a donation or by way of referral to key decision makers within the corporate sectors, please complete the donation / referral form or contact either:
The bursary fund also seeks support of those who might wish to take an active role on the Advisory Board, be an ambassador for the program or be involved at a committee level as we endeavour to improve the educational outcomes of our Indigenous students, thereby adding to the richness of our culture by their sharing and presence.
