Activities include a wide variety of sporting, recreational, cultural and social opportunities. These can include beach trips, movies, ice skating, dances, river cruises, fishing, and Laser Skirmish just to name a few. The recreation program also provides for practical pursuits that support a boarder’s transition to the world beyond.
Numerous outings to the movies, shopping and major city events such as River Fire and the Brisbane ‘EKKA’ are well received by the boys as well as major sporting events associated with the Brisbane Broncos, Brisbane Lions and the Queensland Reds. The recreation program also involves socials and outings with various girl’s boarding schools. The costs associated with recreation are carefully monitored and a series of no cost activities are always incorporated. The advantage of the College’s recreation program is its flexibility and the openness for ideas. Nudgee College encourages parents and boarders alike to comment or make suggestions to the Recreation Coordinator about other activities they would like offered.
The College's extensive sporting facilities are also available for use outside of school hours. These include an Olympic swimming pool, 12 tennis courts and two indoor basketball courts. Boarders can also access the weights rooms, running track and numerous sporting ovals, which all exist at the boarder’s back door.
The extensive size of the property, which encompasses open areas and manicured lawns, give boarders space to relax and retreat from the demands of a busy day at school. Boarders can also choose to spend time in numerous modern recreation rooms that are provided with DVD/Video players, Foxtel, table tennis and billiard tables for each year level.
Boarders are also welcome to join the College's comprehensive extra-curricular program, which includes a wide range of activities in sporting, musical, dramatic and academic areas. Nudgee College also offers a fully operational Cattle Club, Rodeo Team and a nine-hole golf course on the College grounds. While Nudgee College performs well at the highest levels of sport in the GPS competition, it is the breadth of the sporting program that makes the College stand out as being successful.
Often boarders wish to pursue a sport or activity outside of the College and in most cases these individual requests are supported. Staff in the College’s Activities Office are only too keen to offer boys assistance and boys have taken on the challenge of field hockey, judo, sailing, polocrosse, rugby league, and a variety of other activities. Families are encouraged to discuss any such outside sport requests with the Director of Boarding or the Recreation Coordinator.
