The Enrichment area aims to cater for the needs of the College's gifted and talented boys. Enrichment encompasses school subjects, programs and extra-curricular activities.

Identification

  • Achievement of outstanding results in Year 8 diagnostic assessments
  • Achievement of outstanding results in current school subjects.
  • Teacher recommendation, in close consultation with the Head of Enrichment and Director of Learning and Teaching (Years 5–9).
  • Recognised determination to achieve potential.

School Subjects

  • Curriculum Extension – An elective subject for Year 9 and 10 students which includes student negotiated tasks and a focus on critical thinking, creative and research skills. Approximately 80 students are invited to select this course each year.
  • Philosophy and Reason – An Authority subject for Years 11 and 12 which includes the strands Logic, Philosophy and Reason. Completion of Curriculum Extension is recommended.

Programs

  • Horizons – A cross-curricular program for Year 8 students which focuses on "learning how to learn".
  • Years 5–7 Enrichment Program – A multi-age program that focuses on reasoning skills.
  • Year 8 Mentor Program – 25 volunteer teachers support Horizons students to complete an independent research project. Student projects are presented and celebrated on Horizons Night.

Events and Activities

The Enrichment area coordinates and supports gifted and talented students in the following:

  • Enrichment Week
  • Days of Excellence
  • Tournament of Minds
  • Da Vinci Decathlon
  • Future Problem Solvers Program

The Enrichment area also supports Senior students to undertake University study as appropriate.
