Knowledge can be organised into two categories: declarative knowledge and procedural knowledge. Declarative knowledge consists of what learners know or understand about a topic such as the rules of punctuation, the characteristics of an amoeba, what is a numerator, the rules of cricket and so on. Procedural knowledge is what learners can do such as add and subtract, write a paragraph, bowl a ball, read music, and so on.

It is helpful to know that there are two different types of knowledge as each type is learned differently. However, most tasks use both types of knowledge, for instance in order to complete the procedure of adding fractions there are a lot definitions you have to know such as numerator, denominator, common multiple, improper fraction and mixed numeral.
