What’s it all about?
The Barralong Corporate Regatta is a fun rowing event supporting the Nudgee College ‘Big Brekky’ and ‘Big BBQ’ community programs.
The Barralong Corporate Regatta is seeking nominations from groups, businesses, or individuals who want to get involved and enjoy themselves. No previous rowing experience is required, just join in and have fun. There are opportunities for men’s, women’s and mixed crews of all ages.
The Barralong 2012 regatta season commences 19th August and concludes with the Barralong Regatta Day on Sunday 16th September.
What’s in it for you?
The six week rowing program provides the opportunity for you and your group to enhance team-work and to advertise your business.
The Barralong program promotes exercise and fitness, and the opportunity to develop or enhance your rowing skills, in a fun environment.
The Barralong Program culminates on Regatta Day, which is always a great day for the crews to demonstrate their skills and athletic prowess, and for supporters and families to enjoy the carnival atmosphere of a day by the Brisbane River at West End.
What’s in it for us?
The Barralong Corporate Regatta is a fundraising event targeted at improving the infrastructure for our Local Community Programs and for the College Rowing Shed.
The 2011 Barralong Regatta donated $10,000 towards the completion of the storage shed for Street Swags, supporting the College’s community initiatives, as well as contributing to the acquisition and maintenance of the Nudgee College rowing fleet and equipment.
Barralong is an opportunity for our Nudgee College students to participate in coaching programs as a part of their development as athletes, and as leaders for their future in the community.
What do we organise for you?
We provide boats, equipment and facilities for your team. This includes the coaching to improve the skills of novice and experienced crews. We can provide a coxswain if needed.
Regatta staff will attend to all the coordination of crews and coaches for the training sessions so that you are prepared for ‘Regatta Day’. A continental breakfast is provided after the weekday training session and a hot breakfast after the Sunday training session and shower and change room facilities are available at the Sheds.
Barralong Regatta caps and training shirts are provided to all rowing participants.
What we ask you to do?
Get together a crew of :
- 5 people (4 rowers and a coxswain)
- 9 people (8 rowers and a coxswain)
In the event that you can not raise a crew but wish to participate just give us a call and we will organise a seat with an established crew.
All crews need to complete the Barralong 2012 Sign-on Form which is available from the Nudgee College website.
Feel free to arrange a ‘crew uniform’ for your Barralong crew to assist in having your crew stand out on race day (example see photo top right).
When, where and how?
The season will commence with an ‘orientation day’ on Sunday 19th August 2012 at the Nudgee College Rowing Shed at Jane Street, West End. Training sessions will be twice a week on Thursday and Sunday mornings over a five week period leading up to the Regatta race day on Sunday 16th September 2012.
On race day each crew will race in at least two events with the teams being handicapped so everyone gets a fair chance. Handicaps will be based on experience, age, gender, etc... (…or how much you can pay to bribe the race officials...)!!!
