This weekend’s charity fundraising event is just one highlight in a 2011 GPS Cricket season that has seen some amazing achievements from St Joseph’s Nudgee College bowlers.

In a season heavily affected by weather, a remarkable six Nudgee College bowlers have achieved hat-tricks: Nick Debnam (Year 8C - Round 2), Josh Griffiths (Year 10C - Round 2), Josh Drahm (Year 9B - Round 3), James Healy (Year 11A - Round 3), Callum Forrest (Year 8D - Round 4), and Oscar Keith (Year 10D - Round 4).

“The 2011 cricket season has been a good one so far,” said Director of Cricket and 1st XI Coach Mr Sean Toovey.

“The most pleasing aspect has been that no one person has been dominating; it has been a real team effort. All players have been training hard and consistently. They have wanted to go to training which is good and is definitely one reason for the success,” he said.

Nudgee College currently has 21 teams competing in GPS Cricket and 14 teams participating in the CIC competition. All teams will this weekend take part in a special charity fundraising event to raise funds for Edmund Rice Camps and the St Vincent de Paul’s Flood Appeal.

“Boys have been seeking sponsors for their individual performances,” Mr Toovey said.

“The number of runs scored, wickets taken, catches or wins are all options that can be sponsored with money raised being split between the charities.”

Anyone wanting to sponsor a player or make a donation should contact the Activities Office on 07 3865 0430.

Several Nudgee College Old Boys are also excelling in their cricketing careers.

2009 Cricket Captain Corey Barsby (NC 2007-09) played his first game for the Queensland Bulls last Sunday where he joined fellow Old Boys Joe Burns (NC 2002-06) and Chris Lynn (NC 2003-07).

Burns scored a hundred on debut for the Bulls two weeks ago while Lynn has signed an IPL contract and came second at the recent Allan Border Medal for Most Promising Cricketer in Australia.
